What is the Mid-Caucasian Tur?

Mid-Caucasian Tur hunting in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia Mid-Caucasian Tur

The Mid-Caucasian Tur (Capra caucasica) inhabits the central part of the Main Caucasian Range. We offer hunting in exclusive and privileged grounds located in the immediate vicinity of Europe's highest peak—Mount Elbrus.

Location: Privileged territories in Kabardino-Balkaria. The nearest hunting base is located only 2.5 hours away from the city of Nalchik, which ensures excellent logistics while maintaining the complete wilderness of the grounds and minimal hunting pressure.

The animals here behave more calmly, allowing for the harvest of outstanding trophies in a less stressful environment.

Duration: 7 full days (5 pure hunting days + 2 logistics days).
Difficulty: High. The hunter must be prepared for physical exertion at high altitudes and shooting at steep angles at distances ranging from 220 to 380 yards.
Method of Movement: We use only specially trained Caucasian mountain horses, which guarantee mobility in the most inaccessible areas, allowing you to conserve your energy for the decisive shot.

Weather and Hunting Tactics by Month

The choice of trip dates directly influences the physical requirements and the animal search strategy:

August - September 15

Summer Peak Season

The Tur is found at maximum altitudes, escaping heat and insects. During this time, large males gather in groups, although it is a period of frequent fog. Temperature: During the day, a comfortable 60°F...72°F (+15°C...+22°C); at night, it is cool (41°F / +5°C). Tactics: Depending on the situation, we may use lightweight tent camps (Fly Camps). Staying overnight directly on the ridges allows the search for the animal to begin in the first minutes of dawn; however, the decision to use tents is made by the guide based on the current location of the trophies.

September 15 – October

Transition Period

Animals begin to form large herds. Optimal visibility. Daylight hours shorten, requiring more intense observation of the slopes. This period is considered the best for a more comfortable hunt. Temperature: During the day, 46°F...60°F (+8°C...+15°C); at night, light frosts down to 23°F (-5°C) are possible. Tactics: Optimal visibility. The recommended period for the best balance between performance and physical demand.

November

Rutting Season (Maximum Potential)

The most productive but most rigorous month. Males descend to lower elevations to meet the females, becoming less cautious. Temperature: During the day, around 41°F (5°C); at night, between 23°F and 14°F (-5°C to -10°C). Tactics: High probability of snow. Hunting becomes technically difficult due to icy slopes, but the chances of encountering a record male at an accessible distance increase to the maximum.

Logistics, Weapons, and Safety

We understand that the transportation of firearms is the main concern for the international hunter. We offer two proven solutions:

Option A

Your Own Weapon

Requires mandatory transit through Moscow. Our representative will meet you at the airport, assist with customs clearance, and process the temporary import permit. After this, you will travel together on a domestic flight to the Caucasus. We guarantee full legal support.

Our Infrastructure: We have our own armored gun room, where your equipment is kept under 24-hour surveillance.

"Outstanding organization. We hunted 3 turs in the same trip and practically in the same area. The guides' work, territory preparation, and Real Hunt's management speak for themselves. I'll definitely be back."

Jorge Madrazo · Spain · 2025
★★★★★

"On my first trip I couldn't hunt due to weather — we were stuck in camp for 5 days. The guys at Real Hunt offered me a return at no extra cost. I came back 3 weeks later and harvested the tur on day one. Great service, fully transparent, and they kept their word."

Augusto Palamar · Argentina · 2024

Hunting Rules and Refund Policy

We are deeply committed to the principles of "Fair Chase". This imposes strict responsibility on the hunter:

Policy Regarding Wounded Animals and Unauthorized Shots:

  • Shot Without Permission: If the hunter fires a shot without direct confirmation or an order from the guide ("OK" / "Shoot"), and as a result the animal is wounded or a miss occurs—the hunt is terminated immediately. The client is obligated to pay the full cost of the package and the trophy (100%).
  • Wounded Animal (Blood): If blood is detected after a sanctioned shot, the trophy is officially recognized as harvested and is subject to full payment. Our guides will conduct the search for as long as it is technically possible and safe.

Missed Shot Policy:

  • In the case of a clean miss (absence of blood confirmed by the guide), we will continue the hunt and look for a second shooting opportunity for you during the remaining time.
  • If, due to external factors or the hunter's health condition, a second chance cannot be realized within the paid days, the company's obligations are considered fulfilled.

Accidental Harvest:

  • Harvesting an animal of a different species, sex, or age not provided for in your license is considered a serious violation and is paid as a full second trophy.

Refund Policy:

  • We guarantee the provision of a shooting opportunity. In the event that a shooting opportunity does not present itself or the animal could not be hunted due to weather conditions, the company offers the possibility to extend the trip days or to come on the next available dates paying only the maintenance costs.
  • If the hunter does not wish to return, 35% of the tour price is refunded.
  • Cessation of hunting: If the hunter terminates the hunt early for personal reasons, fatigue, or health, the cost of the tour is not refunded.
