What is the Kuban Tur (West Caucasian Tur)?

Kuban Tur trophy (Capra caucasica) harvested in Karachay-Cherkessia, Russia — SCI Capra World Slam Kuban Tur · Capra caucasica

The Kuban Tur (West Caucasian Tur, Capra caucasica) is a wild mountain goat that lives exclusively in the westernmost part of the Caucasus range. For Safari Club International members, it is a required entry for the Capra World Slam and the Ovis World Slam.

Morphologically it is the most distinct of the three tur species: open-spiral horns with the classic European ibex profile — an exclusive, one-of-a-kind trophy for any serious big game collector.

Karachay-Cherkessia is the only region in the world with a viable population of Kuban Tur:

Karachay-Cherkessia — The Only High-Mountain Big Game Zone

The sole region with a viable West Caucasian Tur population. Access to camps: 4–6 hours from the nearest airport (Mineralnie Vody). Complete isolation. No outside hunting pressure. Our team has managed these concessions directly for over 10 years.

Duration: 7 days total (5 active hunting + 2 logistics)
Difficulty: High — shots from 200 to 440 yards, more technical terrain than Dagestan Tur
Transport: Karachai horses, a breed specifically adapted to the slippery slopes of the region
